Hi Jim,

I was told many years ago that the INGRAM family of Choctaw/Montgomery Counties in Mississippi were "Originally" from the Anson County, North Carolina area and the "Old Cheraws" District of South Carolina. I regret I do not remember who told me, but this would make some sense as I have found the INGRAM family tied into my CURTIS family of Choctaw and Montgomery Cos., and my CURTIS family were in Anson County, NC at one point and after they left North Carolina, they seem to have INGRAM neighbors at most of their "stop-overs" in Tennessee and Alabama before they moved to Mississippi; and `it is a common pattern that families who are neighbors in one place will be found to have been neighbors in earlier locations too. Also supporting the statement is that there are INGRAM's buried at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Montgomery Co., MS where numerous Curtis kin of mine are buried and many of the families also buried there hail from Anson County too. There's a major physical landmark in Anson county called "Ingram Mountain." (I'm not sure how big of mountain or if it isn't really more of a hill, but that's the name.) Of course, one of this doesn't necessarily mean that your Melinda Ingram was from this same INGRAM Family group.

I also remember hearing of the name Stoker, but I can't at the moment recall the exact reason. I have a vague memory of hearing of the name in relation to the Williams Family. The Stokers may just have been neighbors. My Williams family was scattered about, but most of them were concentrated in the Kilmichael-Lodi-Greensboro area, although there was another concentration over in Carroll County. The connection though, if there was one, is NOT with my immediate Williams, but one of the related branches. The family of George Williams seems to come to mind, but this is real "fuzzy" in my memory. George was born around 1802 and died about 1883. I'm not even really sure how George Williams is related to my Williams family, but kin have referred to George as having been "cousin George." <grin> Which could of course mean just about anything!

And please note, since I can't recall the where I remembering having either heard or read the above, I do not know how reliable were these sources, but I pass it on in case you might find it helpful. I regret the above is so vague and isn't more "solid," but I pass it on for what it is worth.

--- Jay.
