Descendants of Mary Amony Collier Shaw are placing a tombstone at her unmarked grave in the Blackwood Cemetery in northern Winston County. She died on 13 January 1897 and was buried beside her husband James Porter Shaw, who had died in 1880. Her grave was marked by a wooden marker which stood until the late 1960s.

Mary was the daughter of Abraham Collier and his wife Kiziah Bagwell Collier of Choctaw County, who are buried in the Blackwood Cemetery. Mary was the daughter-in-law of Wiley Shaw and his wife Drucilla Crawford Shaw who are buried in the cemetery at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in northern Winston County.

Family members plan to hold a dedication service for the new tombstone later in the summer. The date has not yet been set. We would be glad to hear from other descendants and from members of related families.

The farm of Porter Shaw and his wife Mary Amony Collier Shaw was located at the intersection of the old Webster-New Prospect Road and the old Pigeon Roost Road. It was the site of the Shaw Spring and the Shaw Branch, which flows into the Noxubee Creek. Today the area is part of the Tombigbee National Forest.
