Joseph Mangrum Carver was born on November 23, 1826 in North Carolina. He died after 1860, probably in Choctaw Co. MS. He married Jemima Gillon about 1848 in MS. He was listed on the 1860 census with the following information;
J. M. Carver, age 34, born NC, Elizabeth Carver, wife, age 34 (Jemima Elizabeth Gillon)Angeline Carver, age 11, daughter, Margaret A. Carver, age 9, daughter, John Carver, age 7, son, Alice Carver, age 2, daughter, and Marion Carver, age 16, and Laura Carver, age 18, spinster. He was the son of a William Carver, who was born about 1810 in NC. I believe that Marion Carver and Laura Carver were his younger brother and sister who were living with him after his father died in 1854. Did Joseph Mangrum Carver had a sister named Cordelia Frances (Mattie) Carver who was born in 1832 in AL? Did he also have a son named William Martin Carver who was born in MS in 1839? Would like to correspond with any descendants of Joseph Mangrum Carver and Jemima Elizabeth Gillon. Will be glad to share any family information that I have. Charlotte G. Boykin
