Thanks for Lunsford tip re: Indiana. I'm still sorting out Lunsfords, and this may help. Not sure of connection of the 3 Lunsfords' on 1850 census in Coahoma Co.(James, Jacob & Augustin), but they appear closely connected with those across river in Phillips Co. AR. Nimrod Lunsford was in James Lunsford's HH in 1850 Coahoma Co. but he settled in Phillips Co. AR. This Nimrod is believed to be son of Retherford Lunsford, who was in Phillips Co. AR by 1826 & reported to have died there. Also on Phillips Co. AR tax lists bef 1830 per another source were Augustine & James Lunsford. Phillips Co. AR is directly across from Friars Point in Coahoma Co. MS.
Since Floyd Co. IN is just across Ohio River from Louisville, KY, it makes sense that this is same family. Wife of James Lunsford, Sarah, is shown as born in IN on 1850 census. Another tip is the name Augustin Lunsford. That's my ancestor being researched. He's on 1850 census for Coahoma Co. with wife Rebecca, who must have died, as he married Caroline Davis in 1855 in Coahoma Co. MS. Haven't located them in 1860. A diff Augustin Lunsford, age 1, appears in Monroe Co. IN on 1860 census(son of a diff James, b 1838 IN). And on 1870 census is an Augustine Lunsford in Cape Giradeau MO who was born in IL abt 1823.
Guess we need to research up & down both sides of Ohio River & Miss. River during 1830 - 1870's.
