Dorothy, some significent elements of your data are wrong. Please look at the exchanges on the GILLESPIE and RUSSELL forums related to Alexander GILLESPIE and Isham RUSSELL respectively. But, here's a thumbnail sketch. Maj. Isham RUSSELL, Sr. had served in the Creek Indian Wars in 1812/'13 under Andrew Jackson. He was a resident of White Co., TN at that time. After the War of 1812, probably ca.1816, he moved his family to Marion Co., MS. He died there in 1819 and his son, Isham, Jr., was appointed administrator of his estate. In the Orphans Court records Isham Russell, Sr.'s widow is referred to as Elizabeth, Sr. since Isham, Jr.'s wife was also Elizabeth. I don't know the maiden name of Isham, Sr.'s wife but the wife of Isham, Jr. is almost certainly a GILLESPIE. My evidence for this is: Alexander GILLESPIE, an Amer. Rev. War veteran, died at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth RUSSELL on 16 Nov 1839 and by the terms of his nuncupative will left his estate, such as it was, to Mrs. RUSSELL. Elizabeth qualified as executrix of Alexander's estate and received the proceeds thereof. The ages of Isham, Jr,'s children on the 1820 Marion Co. census argue strongly for a marriage ca.1816/'17, after his arrival from Tennessee. Since Aug 1812 Alexander GILLESPIE had been a resident of first St. Tammany Par., LA, and after its formation in 1819, Washington Par., LA. These were bordering areas of Marion Co., MS at the specific times. The detailed information regarding Alexander GILLESPIE's military service and places and duration of residence contained in his obituary which appeared in the Southern Star [Vol. 3, No.2; 7 Dec 1839] of Gallatin, Copiah Co. could only have been provided by a close relative or an associate of long standing. Alexander's only proven son, William GILLESPIE, had died in Copiah Co. in 1829 and his widow, Martha (Patsy) RITTER, had remarried to Michael BLOCKER and moved to Leake Co., MS ca1833. I believe Elizabeth was the one who provided the obit. information. The Southern Star obit. was copied, in abreviated form, in the Centurian of Leake Co., MS on 13 Dec 1839. You have Isham RUSSELL, Jr.'s death in 1849. Baptist Church records in the Baptist Archives at Mississippi College at Clinton show that he died in 1835. Final proof is provided by Copiah Co. court records such as these: Copiah Co., MS; Probate Court; Estate File of Isham Russell. Document 1. Relinquishment of Right of Administration by Elizabeth Russell. October 1835 This is to certify that I do relinquish my right of Administration on the estate of Isham Russell Dec. and do Recommend John T. Moore to the administration. Elizabeth Russell Document 2.
