Mr. Roper-- I saw an email post on another site with Mary Collins Landin re: Freeman Lacy.

I am a great, great, great grandson of Freeman Lacy via James Monroe Lacy, Alonzo Lacy, Joseph Lacy and my mother Lonnie. We have always had questions about some of our family stories. James Monroe apparently came to LA after the Civil War with his two children (Alonzo and Sarah Ann). We thought he was the first Lacy in Lafayette Parish but apparently Freeman patented several hundred acres of land he purchased from the Federal govt., also in Lafayette Parish. It was sold to the Foreman family. We wonder if anyone would know if he was an "in absentia" speculator or if he attempted to farm the land, got fed up and went back home to Rankin County, MS? Anything information you could share would be appreciated.
