Have you checked the early (1750-60) Anson County North Carolina Land Records--both grants and deeds? I feel sure I have come across Gillespie name in my research. It seems that the man held an official office in Anson County. Sheriff or judge? Also the name appears in the Cheraw District of South Carolina before and during the Revolutionary War. If my memory serves me correctly, the Gillespie's had interactions with the Ellerby/Ellerbee family. Irish Quakers migrated to Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. I have been told that Philadelphia was a major port of entry. There is a book of Irish Quakers to Pennsylvania. Later these Irish Quakers along with those from Wales migrated to Virginia and others to South Carolina and North Carolina. If they came by ship they could have come into Savannah or more likely Charleston. I have a family who I suspect migrated out of Pennsylvania to Georgia and then South Carolina because of a small scribble on a land grant. I hope I am not leading you down a path to nowhere but feel that the family I have come across so often may be connected to your family. If I had a microfilm viewer I could look the name up on film purchased for Anson County. Notify Administrator about this message?
