Poldi, thanks for the suggestions. Since my previous posting I have learned that Alexander GILLESPIE sailed from Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland aboard the ship Friendship, Capt. William McCULLOCH, and arrived New Castle, Delaware on 13 May 1772. The indenture he made with John KINKAID of Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA was dated that same day and registered in the Mayor's Office of Philadelphia on 16 May 1772.

The residents of York Co., SC, being unaware of the border between North & South Carolina and the absense of a functioning government in York Co., SC, conducted their legal business in the Tryon Co., NC courts. In those court records are a few GILLESPIEs but I have not established a connection between them and Alexander. Much more study is needed.
