Southaven - BUFORD BARMER, 72, passed away June 3, 2008 in the Golden Living Nursing Center in Batesville, MS. Services will be held Wednesday June 4, 2008 in the chapel of Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia, MS with Rev. Bill Shelby officiating. Burial will follow in Tyro Cemetery. Buford was a Pentecostal and was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Carol Barmer. He leaves his sisters, Betty Parker of Southaven, MS, Doris Matthews of Senatobia, MS and his brothers, Billy Barmer of Southaven, James Barmer of Horn Lake, MS and Bill Shepard of Southaven.


Olive Branch - HAROLD E. MASON, 84, formerly of Memphis, died June 3, 2008 at Baptist Desoto Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Mason is a member of Galloway United MethodistChurch in Memphis. Visitation will be from 5-7 Thursday and funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, both at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial will be in Caldwell Chapel Cemetery in Jonesboro, AR following the funeral. Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Mason and granddaughter, Laura Mason. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Corky and Paula Mason and grandson, Drew of Olive Branch; son, David Mason of Richmond, Virginia; his sisters, Opal Weichelt and Maxine White; and a host of other friends.


Southaven - JEFF WHEELER, 68, retired school teacher and coach, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. Mr. Wheeler was born February 1, 1940 in Sledge, MS to the late Jack and Edna Wheeler and was a member of Clearview Baptist Church. Just a few of the things that Jefferson "Coach" Wheeler did to serve his community were Southaven Planning Commission, DeSoto County Crimestoppers Board, Southaven Police Department VIPs (Volunteer in Policing), Bancorp South Community Advisor Board, Founding Member of the Northwest Mississippi Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Volunteer Firefighter for the old Southaven Volunteer Fire Department, while a teacher at Byhalia High School his team won the Commercial Appeal Stock Market Game-Junior Achievement, Educator at Hope Sullivan School when it was K-8th grade and numerous other teaching positions across Mississippi, but finished teaching /coaching the last 22 years at Byhalia High School. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4 from 5-8 p.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Services will be Thursday, June 5 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Southaven. Burial will be in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Geraldine "Sissy" Lee Wheeler of Southaven; three sons, Jeff D. Wheeler and his wife, Suzy of Jackson, MS, Jerald Wheeler and his wife, Gina of Southaven, and Jody Wheeler and his wife, Christine of Southaven; one daughter, Jackie W. Nichols and her husband, Keith of Walls, MS; one brother, Bill Wheeler and his wife, June of Tunica, MS; one sister, Jackie W. Carver and her husband, Jimmy of Pope, MS; and six grandchildren.
