Thanks Richard. I have since found that Caleb, Bailey, and William Martin all went to Baton Rouge at this time and enlisted. They enlisted in the 1st Louisiana Regiment. My gr great grandfather,David W. Shattles, enlisted in the 38th Mass. Regiment. I am hoping to find other men in the Forrest County (at that time Perry Co) and especially around Brooklyn, MS who enlisted in the Union Army. David Shattles, Caleb Martin, and William Martin I know lost their lives while serving. They are all buried in Chalmette Memorial Park in New Orleans. These two families along with the Breland descendants intermarried and were neighbors along Black Creek.
