Seeking Cotten/Cotton family. Marriage in 1825 Franklin Co MS of Joab Cotten to Agnes Hawthorn is reported. Family story is that she was convicted of attempted murder. Does anyone have any information about Agnes Hawthorn Cotten?
Joab's family is reported as early settlers in Claiborne Co MS. My g g grandfather Joseph Abner “Joab” Cotten reported to have moved to Claiborne Co MS with his family from Caldwell Co KY--very sketchy information and no documentation.
Great-grandchildren of Joab tell a story passed down--that Joab Cotton married Mahala Dawes and Agnes Hawthorn in Mississippi. After these two unsuccessful marriages, Joab married Sarah Jane Walls. Told that Joab’s father had moved family to Mississippi. Then Joab returned to KY to marry Sarah, before moving to AK, LA and TX.

I know that researcher Fred Downs is researching a Joab Harris Cotten in MS also.
