I'm trying to learn more about Joseph Brooks. According to US censuses he was born 1794 in Kentucky and died sometime between 1860 and 1866, probably in Mississippi. He supposedly may have been from Lincoln County, Kentucky but I've not verified that. I do know he lived in St Tammany and Washington Parishes, Louisiana and in Hancock and Marion Counties, Mississippi. The composition of Joseph Brooks’s family is sketchy at best. He married an unknown wife before 1812 and had these known children: 1. Sarah Brooks, born 1812 in Louisiana, married James Cooper in 1828 Washington Parish, La, died in Hancock County, Ms. 2. Probably, Kenzie Jackson “Jack” Brooks, born 1823 in Louisiana or Mississippi, died 1865, married Lucinda Perry 3. Joseph Brooks, born 1828 in Louisiana or Mississippi, died before 1870, married Rebecca Davis in 1848 Joseph Brooks next married Mrs. Amelia Holden in Hancock or Marion County, Mississippi. She was the widow of ...Holden. Children are: 1. Margaret Holden, born 1844 Ms 2. Thomas Holden, born 1847 Ms 3. William Holden, born about 1844 - 1848 Ms, died after 1920, may have married Mary ... William also used the name William Brooks 4. John Brooks, born 1859 Hancock or Marion County, Ms The censuses indicate that there were others in his household who are not accounted for by the forenamed children. They may be his children or merely others living with him. Is this the Joseph Brooks who married Cynthia Lea in St Tammany Parish, La.? One other tidbit of information is that he may have been known as H Brooks as well as Joseph Brooks. Any help in identifying Joseph Brooks is deeply appreciated. I'm happy to share whatever I Know about his family. Thanks, Leila Mayberry Notify Administrator about this message?
