Adj. Lt. John Nixon (a Freemason), born McGuiresbridge, Co. Fermanagh, N. Ireland, April 23, 1787; died Biloxi, Missisippi, June 4th or 7th, 1849; entombed Biloxi; was in DeJean's 1st Louisiana Militia in the 1815, Battle of New Orleans. He fought on the far west bank until over-run by the British; when he spiked his two cannon. He was a New Orleans and Biloxi lawyer; and owned the 1850's Nixon House Hotel, Biloxi. October 15, 1815, he wed Adeline Cecelia Copp, New Orleans; Mrs. Adeline C. C. Nixon died Biloxi, May 24, 1876, age 76. She was the daughter of New Orleans lawyer David Copp, Jr., and Mary "Polly" Watson of Portsmouth, N.H.; Mrs. Mary Watson Porter, again widowed; died Biloxi 1846. Mrs. Adeline Cecelia Copp Nixon had:

John Washington Nixon, USN & CSN paymaster N.O. & Augusta, Ga. b N.O. Aug 23, 1822, d Augusta Aug 23, 1888, wed Sally Kate Maddox, Washington, D.C. Buried Augusta; son was Gwinn Henry Nixon. James Roscoa Nixon, b N.O. Dec. 17, 1826, d Biloxi Mar 27, 1886. Richard Augustus Nixon, b N.O. Aug. 9, 1828. Henry Kirk Nixon b N.O. Jan 8, 1830, d N.O. Nov. 24,1908; N.O. policeman, four sons, one daughter; believed forebear of the Hon. Walter Louis Nixon, Jr., past Chief U.S. District Judge, Biloxi. William Robinson Nixon, Sr., b N.O.
