We are seeking informaion on the daughters of Mary M. (Borland) Beattie/GRAY, daughter of famous Arkansan Solon Borland, --- 1)- Grace BEATTIE (1872,TN-1954,CO or MS?) and 2)- Mary V. (Beattie) BELL(1875,TN-1962,MS), Mary with husband Dr. John BELL lived in Belzoni, Humphreys County, MS. The mother and daughters were dedicated to helping the deaf, so wondering if any of family suffered a hearing problem? The sisters had a brother Godwin M. BEATTIE (1877,TN-????) still alive when step-father Colonel O.C. GRAY (1831,ME-1905,AR) died at Little Rock. Their mother died in Kansas City, MO 18 Feb 1938, buried at Fayetteville, AR with husband. The sisters step-brother, Carl Raymond GRAY (1867,AR-1939,Wash.D.C.) was president of Union Pacific Railroad 1920-1937, then Vice Chairman till death in 1939, his wife Harriette Flora GRAY (1869,KS-1956,ME), was "American Mother of 1937". Mother Mary BEATTIE as 'Marg' is listed in 1880 Memphis Census and was a 'matron' at Ark. School for the Deaf in 1883, daughter Mary, a teacher 1889/1900, Grace 1894 lived and taught there, then 1920 & 1930 Census as in mother's 1938 obit, in Colo teaching at Deaf School and was a friend of our grandmother FLORA in CO, a sister-in-law of Carl GRAY's wife Harriette Flora GRAY. We assume Mary meet Dr John Bell in Ark at the school(?) and removed to MS, Grace is a problem, --- when did she move to MS --- or is she just buried there, dying 1954, same year as Dr. John BELL???
