Fulton - Varnell R. Sheffield, 88, died July 20, 2008, at the Courtyard Community Living Center. She was born June 6, 1920, to Will T. and Lula Nanney Riley. She was a member of Friendship Methodist Church for more than 80 years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading. She lived her life around her church.
Services were July 22 at the Friendship Methodist Church. Burial was in Dorsey Memorial Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included one son, William “Pookie” Sheffield (Bonnie) of Fulton; two daughters, Nan Long (Jim) of Fulton and Janet Loden (Jimmy) of Marietta; eight grandchildren, Kim Long (Brian), Amy Webb (Mike), Derek Sheffield (Susan), Amanda Bundy (Doug), Justin Sheffield (Greta), Kip Loden (Julie), Jason Loden (Missy) and Bronson Loden (Teresa); 12 great-grandchildren, Jake Loden, Erin Long, Isabella Webb, Amelia Webb, Wes Sheffield, Christian Sheffield, Bayleigh Sheffield, Crissen Loden, Bethany Loden, Libby Loden, Ivy Loden and Blake Loden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Davis Sheffield, on Dec. 5, 1951; her brothers, Noonan, Waldrep, John and Joe Riley; her sisters, Dovie Schumpert, Buena Boren, Gladys Riley and Xzilda Renshaw; and her parents.
