Services for Sam Akers, retired farmer of the Saltillo area, were held May 5, 1948 at the East Prentiss church with burial in the Friendship Cemetery with Spain Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Akers, who was 83, died May 3 at the Caldwell-Bass Clinic in Baldwyn.
Survivors included four daughters, Mrs. Eber Jackson of Saltillo, Mrs. Perry Wimbs, Mrs. Henry Brown and Mrs. Bill Miller; and a son, Thomas Akers.
Pallbearers were his grandsons: Fisher Stephens, Winford Reeves, Lelon Reeves, Earl Buskirk, Willard House and Roy Scott.
