Willie Loden passed away on March 31, 2008 due to complications from ovarian cancer and heart problems. Willie Clytee Bailey was Born in Lambert, Miss. on Aug. 1, 1924. She was named after her uncle William (Willie) Bailey and was the fourth of the five siblings from her parents Ida Victoria Thomas and Jesse John Bailey. She had an idyllic childhood in a remote area of the Mississippi Delta. She and her brothers and sisters told wonderful stories that were often compared with the television series “The Waltons.” In 1941 Willie married Carson Loden and lived near Tupelo, Miss. where her children Wade and Wanda were born. In 1954, during difficult times, Willie brought her children to California and began a new life as a single mother. From then on, it was always just the three of them against the world. The trio went on an outing to Coronado on the old ferry in 1955 and all three fell in love with the peninsula. During that trip Wanda told her mother that when she grew up she was moving to Coronado, which she did in 1975. Willie followed her daughter's journey to this lovely peninsula in 1998. She loved every minute of every day here and was welcomed by all of her new and loving wonderful friends. She loved walking all around town enjoying the flowers, trees, parks and the library. She took pleasure in every Concert-in-the-Park, Fourth of July, Christmas Holiday Parade and Hotel del Coronado lighting ceremony. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and participated in the Friendship Club and prayer group. She was a talented seamstress and a gifted quilt maker. One of her quilts is displayed every Fourth of July in the window of Kippy's store on Orange Avenue. Willie was a lovely and charming southern lady with a strong will and spirit. Although she did not want to leave us, God had priority and called her home. “Though none go with her, she shall not walk alone.” We will miss you forevermore, our darling mama. Love and blessings. Willie is survived by her children Jesse Wade Loden of Palm Springs; Wada Loden Nolta of Coronado; her sister Opal Reichstetter of El Cajon; her niece Tonawanda Fraser of Temecula; cousin Aloma Richards of Lakeside; and many, many loved ones in Mississippi.
