Decatur, Ala. – Gola Fay Smith, 76, died Oct. 13, 2009, at her residence. She was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Red Bay, Ala., to Purvie Ottis and Audie Blanton Hamm. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a member of Berea Baptist Church in Athens, Ala.
Services were Oct. 19 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with burial in Ridge Cemetery at Golden.
Survivors included one daughter, Charlotte Treadway (Gene) of Athens, Ala.; one son, Carlton Smith (Wanda) of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; two sisters, Maxine Jarnigan and Sue Holley (Hollis), all of Decatur, Ala.; two brothers, A.C. Hamm (Opal) of Decatur, Ala., and Oscar Hamm (Willodean) of Red Bay, Ala.; five grandsons, Keith Smith (Alice), Joseph Smith (Andrea), Michael Smith, Jonathan Smith (Sarah) and Jeffrey Treadway (Kristin); nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Smith; her parents; and one brother, Ottis Hamm.
