Can anyone advise as to more information on the subject and his family, of the following obit which appeared in the
November 16, 1821 issue of "Port Gibson Correspondent" in Claiborne Co., MS.
"Died in the state of Mississippi, about the first, James McAllister, A. M., (Master of Arts) aged 55 years, late principal of Jefferson College, near Natchez. Mr. McAllister was a native of Sterling, (Stirling) in Scotland, and attended the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. He emigrated to America where he resided for some time in the cities of Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia --and from thence was occupied for several years as chief agent in the treasury of the Union. Having left Washington City, he emigrated to Kentucky and was principal of the Salem Academy. He has left a wife and two children."
