I am looking for information on the family of Joseph Delmar Caldwell. He is listed in the 1850 Pontotoc County census as 19 years old living with his parents John and Jane Caldwell in Cherry Creek, Pontotoc County MS( see page 154b, house # 1357 ). I think he was born 8/30/1833 in SC and died 3/3/1910 in Kemper County MS. He married first Cynthia Reid in 1855 and 2nd Frances Crenshaw in 1868. Both Joseph and Frances are supposed to be buried in Kemper County in possibly the Bethel Methodist Cemetery.If his birthdate of 1833 is correct then the census is slightly off which is not unusual.
Joseph was a Pvt in Co K 31st Reg Miss Infantry and after the Civil War moved to central Mississippi. In the 1880 census we find him in Lauderdale County MS, but he apparantly moved to Kemper later.
I would like to more know about Joseph D. Caldwells family but my biggest mystery is his father John Caldwell. Does anyone know anything about his parents John and Jane Caldwell ? Most of the north Mississippi Caldwells came from South Carolina in the late 1840's and early 1850's. I have considerable information on the Caldwell family but just can't figure out how this John fits in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
