Hi Martha,

I am looking for this cemetery as well. James H. and Jerusha were my great grandfather and great grandmother. I have discovered that James died sometime between 1901 and 1920. His land was sold during that time. Jerusha lived with my grandmother and grandfather, near Starkville, until she died. I found her listed on a 1930 census living with them, but her name was misspelled as "Jervoka". When she died my grandfather took her body back to Tate county for burial. They lived near Tyro, MS and at various times were listed in Lafayette, Marshall and Tate counties.

The farm was sold to a Brown family who were related, and later a forced sale was made to the Corp of Engineers and the farm is now under Sardis Lake. At some point James had deeded a partial acre to the "Christian Church". This may have been for a cemetery. If this was adjacent to his land and if he and Jerusha were buried there, it may be under water now as well. This is specualtion, but in the next couple of weeks I am going to drive up to Tyro and see what I can learn first hand. If I find anything new I will certainly make a post here and let you know what I've found.

I have learned quite a bit in the last two weeks, which is when I started this process. Two weeks ago, I was not even sure of their names!

I hope this information helps.

Richard Taylor
