My gg grandfather J.J. McAteer died somewhere in Lafayette county around 1880, according to my grandfather. He was born around 1827 in South Carolina and he was in Tennessee's 12 Cavalry during the Civil War. The family lived in Lafayette County for the 1870 and 1880 censuses. Wife was Mary (Faulkner) McAteer and children were William Alex McAteer, Elizabeth McAteer, Amelia McAteer and John Calvin McAteer (my g grandfather). They all died in Texas. Name could be listed as John J. McAteer or misspelled as JJ McAtur, JJ McAtier... etc. For those who have cemetery books, any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
