Maureen,

Sorry, Mississippi didn't start keeping birth certificates until 1912 (or was it 1914?). Either way, a little late for your Ella.

Some larger cities (Mobile and New Orleans come to mind) kept such records starting in the mid-1800s, but none in Mississippi come to mind.

If you want to confirm her birthdate, you could check for her Social Security number application. She would have filled in her parents and birthdate on it.
