These are the routes that I use when needed. The chancery clerk in Lawrence Co is helpful as well. Their phone number is (601) 587-7162. Lawrence Co Chancery Clerk's office will look things up as they are able, some of the other county Chancery Clerk's will not even consider it.
My first thought would be to try to find the deed first. Then I'd try to find someone who went to the church if it is defunct. If it isn't, sometimes you can go to the church and the pastor or someone else will put you in contact with someone who knows the history of the church.
