! from Doris L. Scrivner of Carthage, MS wife of W.R. Scrivner 5 Dec 1977 to Kathy Allred Falck Dear Mrs Falck: I'm sorry I couldn't write sooner but I have been sick, (and still am). I finally got to see the woman that I thought was a decendant of Matilda kelly and Benjamin Ratcliff. But I was wrong. she says that Benjamin Ratcliff's first wife was a Lindsay and she is a decendant of that marriage. she died and then he married Matilda Kelly and they had no children. My William Kelly that we have mentioned before was born in Ireland in 1739, don't know when he came to America but he was in Rev. War from North Carolina. Some time after the war he moved to Clarke County GA. and lived awhile. Then he moved to Franklin County, Tenn. where he died in 1824. We have no record of whether he had brothers or sisters but do have good records of his decendants. I can't possibly see that there is any connection between the two families. I have the marriage record of Enoch Kelly and Sarah Green in 1824 in Wilcox Co. Ala. As I said before, when they came to Miss. is not known but she was in Leake County and a widow by 1856. 1870 census gives her place of birth as S.C. The old lady who told me about the family said they lived on the Alabama River which does run through Wilsox Co. and does not touch Conecuh Co., so I dan't help but doubt that the Enoch Kelly in 1850 census of Conech County is the same one. If you are able to check that census, we could verify it by the children's names. Eliza was married by 1850, one daughter was named Hannah (married a Lay), one named Melinda Jane, married J.F. Lay, one named Sarah, married a Rutledge, one named Lou Cindy, married a Curtis. A son they called Bill, and a son named Albert or Ab. You didn't tell me who the father of William A. Kelly that was born July 26, 1860 was. I'm curious to know. Any information that you can send me that would help on my Enoch's family would be appreciated. Sincerely Doris L. Scrivner.
