I am a gr-gr-grand-daughter of Henry Eldridge Blailock of Leake Co., MS. His son, the medical doctor, did indeed have a practice in Carthage, MS for a few years in the 1880s then re-located his family to Waco, TX where he continued to practice medicine. He was instrumental in putting in a water system for the town and was on the board of education for Waco and took a big part in building a new or perhaps the only high school. One of his children was one of the first graduates. The burial sites of Henry and his wife were destroyed by logging companies. My father's first cousin showed me how to get to the site but guaranteed me that I would never get there for the overgrowth and bramble. Henry was in the War of 1812. I got his military papers from NARA in D.C. Another family story says that Henry rode the Natchez Trace with Andrew Jackson and was a coach boy and "fetcher" for Jackson. You know that one of his sons is name Andrew Jackson and Thomas Benton was a col. or some high official in the War of 1812. I have surmised that Henry must have fought with him and/or held him in high esteem to name a son after him and I am sure that is where the name came from because there are no "Benton" on either side of Henry's or his wife's family. Henry and Eveline lived in Hinds County around 1840 and I beieve he moved on up to Leake County because he had seen the land while traveling the Natchez Trace with Jackson. The Trace runs through the village of Thomastown. There are many Blailocks related to Henry buried in the Baptis Church Cemetery south of Thomastown. All of Henry's boys fought in the Civil War except Dr. W. R. Blailock who was too young. Write if you are interested. Lucy Blailock S. tiger@attalanet.com
