Marlin Herman Goggins, 67, died May 13, 2008, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born Feb. 14, 1941, in the Palmetto community of Lee County to Herman O. and Susie Mae Smith Goggins. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He lived in Olive Branch for 21 years and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Memphis Stone and Gravel Company. He was a Baptist and attended Pontocola Baptist Church. An avid camper, he enjoyed fishing, cooking and canning, and taking care of his dog, Tootie.
Services were at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with burial in the Goggins family plot at Palmetto Cemetery.
Survivors included his wife, Earline McMurry Goggins of Pontocola; two daughters, Angie Moose (Eddie) of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Lynn Burt of Shannon; five grandchildren, Suzy Moore (Jonathan) of Fulton, Eric Burt (Samantha) of Amory, Kelly Egnor, Josh Manning and Chelsea Manning, all of Rocky Mount, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Sue McVay (Bobby) and Callie Ruth Frederick of Pontocola; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marty Goggins; his siblings, Ottis Goggins, Farrell Goggins and James Holland Goggins; a son-in-law, Wayne Burt; and a brother-in-law, Marlin "Booty" Frederick.
