Oscar Lee King, 87, died May 19, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born March 10, 1921, to Earl C. King and Myrtle Odle King. He lived in Illinois before moving to Tupelo in 1978. He was retired from the Vienna Correctional Center in Vienna, Ill., after 25 years of service to the State of Illinois. He worked as a butcher and had attended baker's school and had training as a chef. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He was a life member of the Illinois Police Association, and a member of the VFW and the AARP. He was a loved and active member of the Cedar Grove Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, hunting, fishing and cooking. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flo Irene King, on Oct. 3, 2001.
Services were at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with burial in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors included one daughter, Janet King Snider (Gary) of Tupelo; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; and his siblings, Juanita Winning, Wilma Roye, Earl King Jr., and twins Cloyd and Floyd King.
