Louise Moore "Mama Lou" Montgomery, 88, died June 10, 2008, at the Gregory Green House at United Methodist Senior Services, where she had resided the last 3 1/2 years. Mrs. Montgomery was born on June 1, 1920, in Okolona to the late Maurice and Nannie Moore. She married Joe Montgomery on Aug. 31, 1941, and they made their home most of their lives in the Union community south of Plantersville. She attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven. A master housewife, mother, grandmother and hostess, Mama Lou enjoyed her family, including her five children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and more than 30 foster children throughout the years. The Montgomery home was a special place of comfort and love to the family and their many friends throughout the country. She was a talented artist and taught art in Nettleton and Mooreville. She enjoyed reading, cooking and playing the piano. She was the perfect hostess with her soft voice, sweet disposition and pleasant manners to her nondenominational church family and a large circle of relationships who loved her dearly.
Services were June 13, 2008, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with burial in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors included her husband of 66 years, Joe "Poppa Joe" Montgomery of the Union community and The Villas at Traceway; two daughters, Judy Bates of Tupelo and Linda Danish (Gary) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two sons, Jerry Montgomery (Greg) of San Marcos, Texas, and Joe Montgomery (Linda) of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Berry (Ray) of Edmond, Okla., Virginia Ott (J.C.) of Delta, La., and Rachel Gaines (Waymon) of Verona; one brother, Bobby Moore of Iuka; her sisters-in-law, Clifford Montgomery of Plantersville, Helen Montgomery of Illinois, Lucille Brooks of Atlanta, Ga., and Lolita Chavez of San Marcos, Texas; numerous foster children and their families all across America.
