Ethel Stockburger, 95, died June 18, 2008, at Avon Lea Assisted Living in Tupelo. She was born on Nov. 3, 1912, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Lee and Eva Lina Grubbs. Ethel married Cecil Stockburger on May 1, 1936. They purchased a hardware store in Hinton, Iowa, in 1951 and Ethel managed the business until her retirement in 1998. Upon retirement she relocated to Tupelo to be with her family. She took up residence at Avon Lea in March of 2000. She loved plants, hummingbirds and collected porcelain and ceramic figurines. She remained very active with her crafts and needlework. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church in Hinton, Iowa.
Services were at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel at 3220 Stone Park Blvd. in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial was at the Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors of Tupelo was in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors included one son, Duane Stockburger (Jeane) of Tupelo; two grandchildren, Daneille Blinson and Barton Stockburger, both of Tupelo; one grandson-in-law, Richard Blinson; four great-grandsons; four nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; her husband, Cecil Stockburger; one son, Jim Stockburger.
