Robert L. Midcalf died June 7, 2008, at Lake Park at Flower Hospital. He was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Lee County to Robert and Mattie Lou Ewing Metcalf. He worked as a housekeeper at Riverside Hospital for 35 years and played baseball for the hospital team.
Services were June 14 at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home. Burial was in Forest Cemetery.
Survivors included his wife of 23 years, Lee Ann Midcalf of Toledo, Ohio; his children, Shirley Coleman of Memphis, Harold (Mae) Midcalf, Imentris Jones of Red Hill, Robert (Teveia) Midcalf and Belinda (Anthony) Tate, both of Georgia, Larry Midcalf of Dallas, Texas, Kathy (Keith) McCoy, Mary (Tim) Colbert and Andrea Coleman, all of Toledo, Ohio, and Randy Midcalf and Corey Midcalf, both of Ohio; a sister, Clemmie Mae “Aunt Honey” Jones of Tupelo; 55 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Hamilton; a brother, Willie B. Metcalfe; four children, Tabitha Midcalf, Bobby Midcalf, Toby Midcalf and Haze Midcalf; two grandsons, Larry Midcalf and Corey A. White; and a granddaughter, Dorie Midcalf.
