The Shell Mound you refer to is a small comunity located in Leflore County, Ms. There is a Cemetery located at the intersection of 49 and 82 Highways west of Greenwood, Ms. There is another Cemetery a mile or so up 49 Hwy. north. Both are located near the point where the Yazoo and Tallahatchie Rivers come to within a couple of hundred yards of each other west of Greenwood. The deaths you refer to could have come from the crossing of either river. Yazoo is a Indian word meaning "river of death". Tallahatchie means "river of rocks", but I have not seen the rocks.
