I have a copy of a letter written by Ruth Gowdy of 809 College St., Columbus, MS on April 13, 1938 to Mrs. Clara Sansom Mabry of Okolona, MS about genealogy. They were both descendents of ISAAC and MARY CARTER. Ruth's grandmother was ELIZABETH (BETSY) CARTER JOHNSON, daughter of ISAAC and MARY. Clara was the grandaughter of BETSY CARTERS's sister, SARAH ANN CARTER SANSOM. BETSY JOHNSON lived in Scooba in Kemper Co, MS.
In the letter, Ruth Gowdy wrote:
"I am glad to get this data on the CARTER AND CLARKS, you have sent, as soon as I can copy it, I'll return it to you. It helps me with some dates and locations with Grand Ma JOHNSON (BETSY CARTER) and with her parent’s dates and location. The names of MA JOHNSON'S children are not quite correct and I'll correct them before returning. Also, the names of yours and Mama’s Uncle CLARKE'S (CLARKE CARTER) wife, she was a JANE TURNER (A Scotch woman), and they only had one child, a girl named CLARKIE."
