William R. Luckett lived in Madison Co., MS. His wife died on 10-18-1850. The following are transcriptions of 2 different articles from the "Mississippi Creole" newspaper recounting her death. (source: Canton Public Library)

The 10-26-1850 article reads:

"PAINFUL CASUALTY. - We regret to announce the death, by accident of Mrs. Luckett, wife of our fellow citizen. Wm. R. Luckett. Whilst traveling in Georgia, and on the road, the horses attached to a wagon that was in company, became unmanageable, running against the Barouche containing the family, throwing Mrs. Luckett therefrom, and passing over her body, produced such injury as to cause her death in a short time."

The 11-2-1850 article reads:

MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT

GIRARD, Ala., Oct 20, 1840 (misprint??)

"GENTS - A melancholy accident happened in this place on last Friday evening 10th ine.t(??) As Mr. William Luckett and lady, and Mr. Oliver Luckett and family, of Canton, Mississippi were traveling through town, on a visit to their friends in Georgia, a negro boy rode by them in a brisk gallop which started the horses in the baggage wagon just behind the buggy in which Mr. Luckett and lady were riding. She became alarmed and jumped out, when the horses in an instant ran over her body, and the wheels of the wagon passed over her head and face, killing her immediately. An inquest was held and a verdict rendered accordingly. The body of the unfortunate lady was conveyed to the residence of Mr. John Godwin, who very kindly provided for the distressed strangers, and our citizens promptly rendered every aid and attention which benevolence could prompt or sympathy suggest. The body was encased in coffins suitable for removal, as the bereaved husband designs taking her to his home in Mississippi in a few weeks. No other personal accident happened to the party, although greatly endangered."

(Note: An inscriptions on one of the tombstones in the "Old Canton Cemetery," reads as follows: "In memory of Ann C. Wife of Wm. R. Luckett born in Jefferson Co., Miss Mar. 20, 1829 died Girard, Ala Oct 18, 1850")
