What happened to Oscar Forbes?

I know that Francis M. Forbes of Marion County married Mary Ball (Daughter John Warren Ball) of Washington Parish, LA, on 5 Dec 1867. Oscar, their son, was born 11 Jul 1871 and was living with his family in Marion county in 1880 (from the census). He married Josephine (Josie) McKenzie on 19 Sep 1894, and they had a son named Elbert (my great-grandfather) on 20 Aug 1895. However, on 20 Dec 1897, Josie Forbes (McKenzie) married W. R. Fortenberry. What happened to Oscar between 1895 and 1897? Does anyone know?
