Velma King Phillips, 89, formerly of Holly Springs, died March 24, 2007, at her daughter's home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was born June 17, 1917, in Marshall County to Calvin King and Magnolia Davis King. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Chulahoma M.B. Church, where she was a deaconess, and a member of the Mother Board and the choir.
Services were at Chulahoma M.B. Church in Holly Springs with burial in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Quine C. Shaw of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Marce L. Armstrong of Aurora, Ill.; four sons, Joseph Curtis Phillips, Charles Richard Phillips, Hase Edward Phillips and Morris Alvin Phillips, all of Aurora, Ill.; one sister, Zettie B. Ware of Memphis; one brother, LaThurmon Jones of Chicago; 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Phillips, and a son, Linwood King.
