"William "Jack" Gaines, Frankfort, Franklin, KY"
Posted by: Ercell Hawkins Vaughn (ID *****5497) Date: November 20, 2007 at 19:04:34
  of 19913

My maternal Grandfather William "Jack" Gaines, of Irish descent, built his home on a rock quarry in Green Hill, was a stone mason and built rock fences in Frankfort, Franklin, KY.
His father, my G-Grandfather was Edward "Dude" Gaines and his mother, my G-Grandmother was Betty Shannon. My G-Grandmother's Shannon Family were from Jett, Ky. William Shannon was her father and served in the Civil War.
Granddaddy "Jack" was named William -after him.
Grand Dad had 10 siblings. His brothers and sisters, not in order, are: Martha Gaines(nick "Sweet" ), Lu Genia Gaines nick "Pooker", Delma Gaines (Joe), Lizzie Gaines, Dennis Gaines, George Gaines, Henry Gaines(nick "Bear", Joe Gaines and Edward "Sun" Gaines.
I have searched for my Grandfather's name in many archives and not found him.
He was also talented playing piano, harmonica, guitar, singing and storytelling. He loved to fish and hunt. He tended a family garden raising roses, fruits and vegetables. He had five children 1 male and 4 females.
George Gaines lived in California and came back to visit alot. Uncle George Shannon came to live for a time with my grandfather and his wife Carmen Ercell Allen (whom I am named after- her namesake)
Uncle George could whittle wood branches into beautiful carved canes and would play musical instruments; he loved to sit along the rock fence aside the small road in front of the home on Greenhill Ave. Other uncles from the Shannon Family were John, George, Daniel, Feely and Abraham.
Right now, I am seeking the continuance of my family lineage on this side.
Granddaddy said his grandfather was white/caucasian and I am seeking my other family members as it is not fully known who my g-g-grandfather was or where he died. If My g-g-grandfather still has living descendants I would like to first have correspondence with them and eventually meet them (my relatives)
