Jerald V. Uptain, 68, died June 22, 2008, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born on Sept. 14, 1939, in Aroney, Ala., to A.V. and Ruby Irene Dixon Uptain. He graduated from Crossville High School in Crossville, Ala., and from the University of Alabama with a degree in chemical engineering. He lived in Aberdeen since 1971. He retired as safety supervisor from Vista Chemical. He served as first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a Christian.
Services were at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with burial at the Old Union Cemetery in Wayside, Ala.
Survivors included his wife, Martha Jo Allen Uptain of Aberdeen; one daughter, Kristie Jo Norris (William) of Aberdeen; one son, Jerald David Uptain of Aberdeen; one sister, Jane Lou Miller of Evans, Ga.; two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
