Ila Gilleylen Bates, 89, died July 7, 2008, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. She was born April 8, 1919. She was a member of Victory Temple Outreach Holiness Church. She attended school in Monroe County. She was a former employee of Hunk Moore Top of the Hill Restaurant and Marion Chicken Hatchery. She loved to work in her garden and wear her hats and caps.
Services were at Victory Temple Outreach Holiness Church with burial in the Masonic Cemetery. Darden and Sons Funeral Home of Amory was in charge.
Survivors included one son, Gus Vassar Jr. of Amory; two daughters, Ila Jean Buckingham of Toledo, Ohio, and Alice W. Freeman of Amory; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee James Bates; her father, Plummer Gilleylen; and her mother, Carrie Bell Gilleylen.
