George Harvey Collins Sr., 87, died July 9, 2008, at the Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Hamilton to Walter Lee Collins and Melissa Jo Bolton Collins. He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton and a graduate of Hamilton High School. He served at a CC Camp and in the Mississippi National Guard, and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired employee of Walker Manufacturing Company in Aberdeen after 24 years. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Services were at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with burial in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Lee Blair Collins of Hamilton; one daughter; two sons; three sisters, Bessie Lou Stanford of Hamilton, Evelyn "Jackie" Collins Camp of Kenner, La., and Betty J. Swanzey of Columbus; one brother, Anderson Bolton "A.B." Collins (Tennie Bea) of Hamilton; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mabel Summerford; two brothers, L.W. Collins and Charles Clinton Collins; and a grandson, Jason Allen Collins.
