Jack Veral Cox, 83, died May 9, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born June 15, 1925, in Nettleton to John Marcus and Edna Pearl Butrum Cox. He married Ruby Jewel Jones in 1949. He worked at International Harvester and Fowlkes Ford. He co-owner of C&M Garage with Denley Mobley, and he retired as supervisor of Monroe County Landfill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, and he was a Mason. He was a member of the Becker Baptist Church. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, gardening and watching basketball.
Services were at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with burial in the Haughton Memorial Park.
Survivors included his wife of 59 years, Ruby Jewel Jones Cox of Amory; one daughter, Beverly Hamilton (Elmer) of Amory; sister-in-law, Hazel Sue Cox of Tuscaloosa; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Otis, Leslie, Eulus, Jude, Hollis and Leander Cox; three sisters, Lena Robinson, Hazel Schweikert and Mammie Berryman; and special friends, Price Hoots, Doris and Denley Mobley, and George and Winnie Reed.
