Wade “Baseball” Dixon Sr., 97, died May 9, 2009, at his home. He was born April 12, 1912. He grew up in Macon and lived in Columbus. After moving to Amory he worked as a loader for the Frisco Railroad and the Mississippian Railroad for many year. He worked for the City of Amory, then retired from True Temper Sports in Amory. He played baseball until 1955. He was a member of St. Paul M.B. Church in Amory. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed riding his bicycle, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was known for his famous curve balls and his dedication to Christ. He married Ruby Jane Banks in September 1947.
Services were at Freewill Gospel Temple in Amory with burial in the Masonic Cemetery in Amory. Darden and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jane Banks Dixon; his father, Willie Dixon; and his mother, Lou Ella Moore Dixon; his children, J.W. Brownlee, Willie Lee Dixon, Elma Dixon, Wade Dixon Jr. Ola Jean Jones, Debra Carol Dixon and Aaron Wade Dixon.
