Lewis H. Thompson, 87, died May 15, 2009, at the Riverplace Nursing Center in Amory. He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Smithville to the late Condie Lee and Vangie Bennett Thompson. He married Mary Helen Ross in 1946 who predeceased him in 1998. He was retired from Monroe Trouser and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe. He was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and he enjoyed gardening.
Services were at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Smithville with burial in the Maxey Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Smithville was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Dannis Mason (Ken), Vickie Weatherbee (Wayne), Allene Morgan and Kathy Baucom, all of Smithville; one sister, Jeanette Roche of Smithville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sons, Howell, Benny and Darwin Thompson; and two daughters, Susan Elam and Kelly Thompson.
