Obit: Mary Jeane Ellis Marion Ledbetter

Mary Jeane Ellis Marion Ledbetter, 83, died May 17, 2009, at the Oak Tree Plantation. She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Tom and Della Gorman Ellis. She graduated from Northeast High School in Oklahoma City in 1945. She married Robert Howard Marion in May 1950 in Oklahoma City and moved to Amory. He died in April 1997. She married Robert M. Ledbetter in October 1999 in Amory. She was a telephone operator during and after World War II in Oklahoma City and worked at Marion Hatchery and Feed Mill, G&Y Drug and the Amory Animal Hospital in Amory. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amory for 59 years. She served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, librarian and in other church activities. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Amory. She was president of the Amory Wednesday Musical. An avid reader, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, piano and choral music, baking and cooking, needlework including quilting and sewing, and especially being with family and friends. A true Southern lady, she touched many lives with her generosity, kindheartedness, and devotion.

Services were at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with burial in the Masonic Cemetery in Amory.

Survivors included her husband, Robert M. Ledbetter of Amory; one son, Robert Marion Jr. (Connie) of Randolph, N.J.; two daughters, Rebecca Fields (Doug) of Powhatan, Va., and Pam Crvich (Anton) of Salem, Ore.; one sister, Jo Anderson (John) of Crescent, Okla.; two brothers, Tom Ellis (Beverly) of Dallas, Texas, and James Ellis (Carole) of Oklahoma City; three stepdaughters, Peggy Parham (Ronald) of Amory, Celia McDonald (Mickey) of Baton Rouge, La., and Karen Tiffin (Billy) of West Point; three stepsons, Mark Ledbetter (Nancy) of Tupelo, Tom Ledbetter (Donna) of Wilmington, Dela., and Terry Ledbetter (Marla) of Saltillo; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Howard Marion Sr.; and two grandchildren, Lisa and Cary D’Haillecourt.
