Durwood House, 73, died May 20, 2009, at Aurora Australis Lodge in Columbus. He was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Hamilton to Leonard House and Lelia Easter House. A lifelong resident of Hamilton, he was co-owner of Durwood's Grocery. He was a member and deacon of Center Hill Baptist Church.
Services were at Center Hill Baptist Church with burial in Center Hill Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Maxie House of Hamilton; three daughters, Charlotte Wilson (Larry), Sonya Cockerham (Tracey) and Mechelle Welch (Danny), all of Hamilton; two sons, Randy House (Alisa) of Shreveport, La., and Allen House of Hamilton; one sister, Alza Blair of Northport, Ala.; two brothers, Herbert House of Tyler, Texas, and Richard House of Manchester, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, Crystal Smith, Kristopher House and Wesley House; and two brothers, Durley House and Bill House.
