Clayton Evans Jones Sr., 82, died May 29, 2009, at his home in Aberdeen. A lifelong resident of Monroe County, he was born July 1, 1926, to Harold Evans Jones and Mattie Sue Hollingsworth Jones. He was a self-employed truck driver. He worked for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in the early sixties and retired in 2003 from Monroe County road maintenance. He was a graduate of Greenwood School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of New Hope Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion for 62 years. After retiring, his favorite pastime was selling produce from his home.
Services were at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with burial with military rites in Sartor Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jane Atkins; and an infant son.
