James Andrew Powell, 86, died June 12, 2009, at the Riverplace Nursing Center in Amory. He was born June 17, 1922, in Becker to the late Robert Allen Powell and Mamie Hunell Powell Gosa. He lived in Becker before moving to Amory. He married Louise Miles in 1956, who survives. He worked for Wilson’s Mfg., the City of Amory sanitation department and he was a farmer. He was a member of the Trace Road Baptist Church and he enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed taking care of his stepgrandson, Frankie Miller.
Services were at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with burial in the Haughton Memorial Park. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of 53 years, Louise Miles Powell of Amory; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Allen Powell Jr.; two half brothers, Joel and Noel Gosa; one sister, Mary Powell; one stepdaughter, Paulette Gosa Miller; and three step grandchildren, Frankie, Jerome and Mary Elizabeth Miller.
