The 1930 Federal census for Montgomery County contains a listing for faculty and boarding students at Montgomery County High School at Kilmichael. I am particularly interested in Mrs. J. C. Jones, who was dormitory matron at the school at the time of the census; three of her children, Virginia, Lucy, and Mary Margaret, were listed as boarders at the school. Not listed are her husband, James C. Jones, and her son, James C. Jones, Jr., who would have been 18 at the time. In 1920 this Jones family lived in Magee, Simpson Co., MS, where Mr. Jones taught school. About 1922, Mr. Jones was the first principal of the newly-consolidated and newly-named Dixie School of Forrest Co., MS. Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Jr. were also among the founding members of Dixie Baptist Church that year. Apparently, they were at Dixie only one year because someone else was principal the following year. I think it likely Mr. Jones died between 1922-1930 and I'm curious to know if he perhaps went to Montgomery Co. High School when he left Dixie. I'd be grateful for any further information about Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their children. While I have not checked the Montgomery Co., MS, census for 1920, it's very likely that a list of teachers and boarding students at Montogomery Co. High School is included in that census. My thanks in advance for anyone who can point me toward further details about the Jones family.
