A distant relation passed down a description of his father that we are trying to document. His name was William Wood, and he lived most of his life in Duck Hill, MS. He was born 1827 or earlier in Virginia and came to Mississippi as a young man. He married three times - the names of his wives are unknown. The children from the first marriage were Dick, George, John and two daughters whose names we don't know. The children from the second marriage, to a woman surnamed Carter, were Benjamin Carter Wood (b. 1851) and a sister named Martha. There was apparently a third marriage, but no children resulted. William Wood is said to have served as a Captain in the CSA during the Civil War. Following his return home at the close of the war, Benjamin went to Texas and apparently had no further contact with his family. The William Wood we are seeking cannot be W. H. Wood of Duck Hill who served with the 1st MS Cavalry. This individual was born in 1846 - too late to be the father of the above listed children. Because Benjamin was estranged from his family, we are not certain that any of this information is accurate. Any clues appreciated.
