Hi Mary,

I could be mistaken, but I am thinking that I remember there being a William H. Wilson buried at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery located south of the old hamlet/ghost town of Huntsville and just inside the Montgomery County side of the Montgomery/Choctaw Counties line. (Huntsville was located on the highway between Kilmichael and French Camp which I think is U.S. 82. I'm just not certain.
A second problem is that I could be remembering what someone told me and not what I saw there and that presents a problem as perhaps half, or maybe even more, of the graves at the old cemetery are no longer marked. As late as the late 1970's there were numerous graves which were still marked by remnants of markers that had been made out of sandstone, but by that time the markers only resembled dark brown rocks. At least as late as the 1960's there were "old timers" who knew for whose graves most of these markers marked. Unfortunately, not only I have not been able to learn of anyone who is still living who has this knowledge, and I have asked around, the markers are no longer there! In the early 1980's one of those responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cemetery decided that the old stones made ground maintenance to difficult and pull up all of the old sandstone markers and piled them in a large pile near the walk-in gate entrance to the cemetery. I had plans to return someday and take a "black light" to examine the stones to learn if any inscriptions might still remain, but when I next returned, someone had carted off all of the stones!
I do know for sure that there are Wilsons buried there and if memory serves me, they had come from Alabama. I'll check around and see if any of my contacts who might be familiar with the Wilson family buried there know just from where in Alabama they come.
There are some, relatively speaking, old graves in the cemetery, with a number dating from the 1860's and some earlier than that. Among the families I know represented there, though this is far from complete and I'm going entirely from memory, include Wilson, Curtis, Threadgill, Herndon, Cunningham, Cartledge, Holmes, King, and Herring. I believe there are also Henderson, Honeycutt, Thomas, and Smith surnames found there too.
--- Jay
